Understanding how the recruitment process works

Athletic recruitment is a free-for-all, with little guidance on how to approach it. There are constant uncertainties with which events to attend, how to promote yourself, and how to effectively speak with college coaches.

Building an attractive personal brand

Most of recruitment and college admissions boils down to your personal brand. Students don't understand its importance and what needs to be done to create a compelling student-athlete profile that generates interest.

Meeting school-specific & NCAA eligibility requirements

Being a strong athlete can only get you so far. High school student-athletes must also excel academically with standardized testing, GPA, course requirements, and extracurriculars such as internships, programs, clubs, etc.

Navigating the college search process with increasing competition

The overwhelming number of college options and difficulty in finding the right fit in terms of academic studies, athletic programs, campus culture, location, financial considerations, and post-graduate job opportunities.

Crafting a compelling college application

Challenges in writing essays that effectively showcase one's unique experiences, achievements, and aspirations. Identifying and requesting letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, and mentors. Juggling application requirements and deadlines with existing responsibilities.

High school students are expected to figure all of this out, with no clear direction, and make a decision that will impact the rest of their lives!

Standard Student-Athlete Package

Phase 1: Kick-off

• Initial introduction between Next Play Consulting team and the student-athlete / parents

• Understand the student-athlete’s academic and athletic goals

• Next Play Consulting team to create a personalized schedule for the student-athlete (weekly meetings recommended)

Phase 2: Strategy Development

• A recommended short-list of colleges based on the student’s goals and preferences will be generated

• A framework of each college’s academic and athletic standards will be created to plan for the necessary expectations to be met

• Next Play Consulting will leverage their experiences and internal network to build a personalized athletic and academic roadmap, with key milestones to reach, over the course of the student-athlete’s high school career

• The student and Next Play Consulting team will agree on a meeting schedule and package timeline

Phase 3: Plan Execution

• A personalized academic and athletic improvement plan (e.g., coursework planning, extracurricular selection, strength & conditions and sport-specific training programs, etc.) will be created for the student-athlete and we will continuously track progress

• A tailored target-list of athletic events (e.g., tournaments, showcases, college affiliated prospect camps) with the highest college coach exposure will be created and provided

• Customized support with college coach outreach (e.g., email templates, phone call preparation) and engagement through our established network of college coaches

• Weekly status updates will be provided to both the student and parents to ensure maintenance with our goals and timeline

Phase 4: Finalization & Refinement

• Preparation with required standardized tests (e.g., ACT, SAT)

• College application support including essay writing, application requirements, letters of recommendation, financial aid / scholarship management, and interview preparation

• Once the student is admitted into their school of choice, Next Play Consulting will create a new, personalized plan to prepare for their college journey (e.g., major and coursework selection, athletic training programs, professional opportunities available)
